Film Festival Rules and Operation

The Independent Film portion of the festival invites aspiring filmmakers from around the world to submit their projects for consideration. Films are categorized as International Narrative/Feature, Documentary, Short, Student Short and Music Video/Commercial.

Selection and Award Process

  1. Submitted films must meet the following requirements: Include an English subtitle, high quality video/sound composition and appropriate detail completed in the FilmFreeway submission process. (FilmFreeway is the official film management portal of the festival)
  2. All films are screened by a non jury panel for appropriate content. A film is immediately disqualified if  extreme vulgarity, violence, endangerment to children or animals, discriminatory racial, ethnic or religious messages or  any theme considered not in the spirit of the festival is discovered in the content. Any single instance of the proceeding does not require screeners to complete viewing of the film.
  3. Approved films are moved to the official selection phase. A notice is sent to the filmmaker requiring an online form to be completed with film detail, artwork and appropriate links for promotion and festival showing.
  4. Completed selection forms are used to generate press releases and trailer/preview content about the approved film. Those electing to show their films on IPFF-TV can designate their option at this time.
  5. Attending filmmakers (not required to have a selected film shown) are encouraged to make their intentions known to the festival for optimal showing times to match audiences with preferred films. Premier films must be so designated by the filmmaker in advance of the festival.
  6. A Schedule of film times will be published online by the festival in advance of the festival dates.
  7. The panel of judges make award selections based on the criteria and categories of the films.
  8. Awards are announced at the grand finale of the festival, during the national costume fashion show.
