Experiment: A short story about a scientist studying romance in a chimpanzee laboratory. It is a freewheeling exploration into expectations of human nature, and into turning classical narrative storytelling techniques on their head. Playing with tropes of Western storytelling and mixing live-action with puppetry and stop-motion animation, EXPERIMENT is all about the playful twist. It features performances by Anne Butler and Matthew Peridis, women of color in all key crew positions (director Lili Gu, cinematographer Judy Phu, producer Kathia Sanchez-Aldana), and a score recoreded live by the Dallas Chamber Symphony. It was written, shot, and edited over the course of six (yes, six!) days on a minuscule budget, an expression of joy for for the art of making something out of nothing (i.e., filmmaking).
